  1. You do not ask questions.
  2. Ignore the first rule.
  3. Submissions must be between 6 and 4,000 words.
  4. Submissions must be based on the theme. They can be tightly wrapped around the theme, sharing the kind of physical contact normally reserved for forbidden lovers in office stationery cupboards; or they can be loosely tied to the theme, flapping in the wind like a flag on a pole. But it must be there - if the reader can't work out what on earth your story has to do with the theme, it doesn't count.
  5. Submissions should be sent to submissions@thethemeis.co.uk. The subject should be your story title, and the body should contain your name (and web address if you want your name to appear on thethemeis.co.uk as a link), the theme, and then your story. One or more of the three guys who run the page will then read it, and it'll probably be uploaded soon after that. If it's not, please don't get all angry with us - we're just three guys with full time jobs and a domain name. Sometimes we forget to do stuff.
  6. Submissions must not contain any hateful rants or slander or anything supernegative (or illegal) like that. Let's try to be nice and positive, everyone.
  7. All animals are equal.
  8. Submissions must be received before the deadline.
  9. You can edit your submission at any time. If you've noticed a mistake that you'd like to rectify or a whole passage that you've decided you don't like, just send us an e-mail in the same format as your original submission, including the entire story with your modifications. Be sure to send it from the exact same e-mail address as your original submission, or we won't post it on here.
  10. By submitting your story, you consent to us posting it onto the site (and, obviously, crediting you as the author) and keeping it on there until we die or you ask for it to be removed or the domain name gets taken away from us.
  11. Your submission is yours now and forever. We will never claim ownership of it. If you want it deleted, just say. And please, feel free to post it on any other site or enter it into any competitions you like. We recommend Circalit.
  12. These rules can (but probably won't) be changed at any time with no notice at all. Especially this one.
